Fougeres, Mt. St. Michel, Dinan, April 3

What an interesting day.
We started with a wonderful French breakfast of croissants and homemade jam and cafe au chocolate.
Then, we drove on VERY secondary "roads" to Mt St Michel.  It has changed a lot since our first visit in 1982 when we camped nearby.  We took a shuttle bus there which we were told was free for the day, but will soon cost €12.  The abbey was closed for a funeral, but we climbed to the top and around.  Tide was out a long way.  There is a huge construction project which will elevate the causeway and stop all the interference that happens now.

Then, going on Rick Steve's recommendation, we drove to the medieval walled Breton city of Dinan. It is beautiful with narrow cobbled streets and medieval buildings, but we could not find an inexpensive hotel and parking was problematic with market day tomorrow.  So, we ate a Breton lunch of gallettes, a rather thick crepe made with buckwheat flour and filled with cheese, ham and
Egg, followed by a sweet galette.  (Mine was caramel and Mark's was chocolate)

We decided to leave Dinan and keep driving, but, in the end, found a one star, rather seedy hotel outside of town, en route to a little village of Lehon.  Then, we drove back to Dinan and walked the ramparts, looked at the churches and wandered.  We took a side trip to Lehon, got some pâté and a baguette and are eating in our hotel.  We are glad we decided to give it a second try and stick around as it really is very pretty.
