A Quiet Day, April 13

Unfortunately, I woke up with a major headache, probably a migraine.  So, I stayed in bed until past noon, very rare.  I did get up to say goodbye to Heather.  Glenn drove her to the airport in Nimes quite early.

Mark and Jerry went into the market in Arles, the biggest in the area.  They bought vegetables and sausages for dinner.  We sat in the garden talking, and then up late doing more talking.  We do not lack for topics...all of us being reflective and philosophical.  Mark called Nick and Cal and Alice.  I called my mother in Binghamton.  She was very pleased to chat with Jerry, one of her favorites.

A funny thing about the word "Arles".  Every time we have said that we were going to visit a friend in Arles, French people have not understood us.  It seems a word we were not able to pronounce. We mentioned this to Jerry and he laughed. He  said that he should never have called his business Arles Offset because, even after 30 years, he had to continually spell out the word Arles as no one understood his pronunciation either!  Even funnier, when Mark talked with his dad, he had a hard time with Mark's pronunciation.  We don't feel so bad now about it now that we know that fluent Jerry had a hard time with it, too.
