Albi, Languedoc, April 9

Today, we drove from Montignac to Albi, about 200+ kilometers, all on secondary roads, so it took us about three and a half hours.  Most of the way, it rained and was chilly, getting down to 5 C.  The road took us up pretty high,  775 meters.  Some of it was pretty, some more industrial with some mines.

We are staying at our first nondescript hotel, a Budget Ibis. It is funny as the front of the building has a regular Ibis, 22€ more than what we are paying at the back.  But, the location is good and there is underground parking.  We are only a 10 minute walk from the town center.

We decided to leave most of the sight seeing until tomorrow, but we did walk around the city to get our bearings. We bought an Albi Pass for tomorrow.  We walked down to the river Tarn and looked at France's oldest continuously-used bridge, built in 1020!  Albi is mostly built of brick, so is called the red city.  It is very quiet here and we wandered mostly empty streets.  We were the only customers at the Indian restaurant where we had dinner.
