Dubrovnik to outside Zadar, Croatia, May 4

Today, we packed up, after a long chat with Refika and Mark backed his way back up the narrow, steep switchbacks.  whew.  He then drove back over the high, serpentine mountainous road to the motorway, again passing through the Bosnian checkpoint.  We decided to skip Split as it is a busy, traffic jammed city with parking difficulties and the 5+ drive here to Kosino, outside Zadar was enough.  En route, we stopped by the side of the road and had a picnic.  We didn't swim, although the weather was great because we didn't have towels and there was also a lot of glass.

Miraculously, we found the flat Mark rented as our directions were scant.  The apartment area is called the Success Luxury Apartments.  Joseph, the manager, did not answer our call and we, luckily, met a man who had hos number and called him.  Joseph had another resident, an elderly man who spoke no English, let us in.  The apartment is really nice, the largest on this trip, with a comfortable outside balcony where we can see the water just down the street and have woods filled with dive-bombing swallows.  Too bad we have only two nights as it seems relaxing.

After settling in, we drove for groceries and then drove into medieval Zadar, drove around and bought some cheap water shoes in hopes of a swim tomorrow.  We stopped for typical Croatian roast pig for dinner.
