The sun shone all day and we were lucky to be able to drive through the French countryside.
We trekked with our luggage on the subway (one change) and then walked to the Hertz car rental on Avenue Aristide Briand. We expected a quite small car, but when Mark asked for diesel (for better mileage), the very friendly young man switched us to a pretty large Opel. It is almost a minivan and brand new. So, we were really lucky.

Stone farmhouse where we are in Ligne |
Mark drove out of the city very easily as the rental agency was near to the road we wanted to take toward Angers. It took us about 3 hours to drive to Doue la Fontaine, a village. We are actually in a hamlet called Ligne which looks to be about 10 dwellings. First we stopped at Super U to shop for essentials - baguette, cheese, wine, ham, pate.....

Barbara in jardin |
A lovely Scottish woman who tends the garden here and caretakes the house met us at the farmhouse and showed us around. It is amazing. We are in an old stone farmhouse with charming gardens, loads of books, fireplaces..... Jec and Willy and the kids stayed on the property last year in one of the gites (converted stable apartments) with Tom and Jo. We are completely enchanted as it far exceeds all our expectations.
We had tea, pate, cheese and bread in the garden and are busy reading about all the places that we want to explore!
