Home...beating a winter storm, Feb 28 Plus: Reflections on the trip

We left Atlantic Beach and drove directly home. We had hoped to spend a few days back in Washington, D.C., but the weather helped to change our minds. Plus, we have a LOT to do in the few days we are home to get ready for our trip to Europe.
So, we drove the first night to a Country Inn & Suites in Smithfield, N.C. and got food to eat in our room. We had quite a bit of rain, but it was a gentle, non windy rain, so no problem.
The second night, we went to Edison, N.J. to the same Comfort Inn we stayed at last year. The weather was sunny and warm. (high 50s) We also ate at the same Malaysian restaurant, Penang. Last year we raved about it, but this year thought that it was only okay. We also went to the large Asian supermarket and enjoyed looking around and buying a few herbs and sauces.
From Edison, we drove directly to Hyannis. We had an easy time going through NYC even though it was rush hour. The Google ap directed us an alternate way onto the George Washington Bridge which cut a lot of time. We had another gorgeous travel day - sunny and it got as warm as 55, so no shock to the system as we transition from Florida back to New England. We made it to Hyannis by noon and put the car on standby. (#1) We walked to Persey's for lunch, the Sunnyside being closed, and had a lovely, sunny trip home.
Then - a massive storm struck so it is very good that we came home early. Boats and planes cancelled and we'd have been stuck in Hyannis for days.
     Reflections
We did about 4700 miles and change in the good old Toyota. (Although we did look at plug-in hybrids for the future.)
We had a very family-oriented trip. We saw the Hutchesons before we left New England. We saw Sage and Cole en route. We saw the White clan at Julia and Randall's wedding and we had a new grandchild, Christian, on Barbara's birthday. We stayed with Cal and Alice for just over two weeks and also stayed with Michael and Nancy in Atlantic Beach and saw Christina, Michael, James and Sawyer in their new home.
We got to see plays and movies this trip. Of course, the absolute highlight was Hamilton, because of a generous gift from Weldon. We also saw Annie at Vero Beach H.S., and we saw a National Theatre Live performance of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. We saw Black Panther, Phantom Thread,  and the latest Star Wars.
We had very good weather both coming and going. While it was cold in NYC, it did not stop us. And, we managed to get home early and avoid a storm.
We feel very lucky. Now we get ready for our next big adventure!
