First Day in England, March 20

We landed on time at Gatwick, but Customs took a LONG time as there were a lot of people and not many working So, when we emerged, Maura had been waiting quite a long time. We got to ride in "Betty Blue Eyes" the car that Maura bought when we were with her last and had gone to a play of the same name.
After a quick meal, we went to Richmond Hill and walked. While a bit nippy, spring was definitely in the air and England is way ahead of us in their spring. Daffodils were in bloom, for example. We saw beautiful view of the Thames and walked to Henry VIII's Mound where you look through a telescope and can see an unobstructed view of St. Paul's Cathedral, 10 miles away.
We walked down the hill into Richmond and along the river.  Quite beautiful. Then, we went to a lovely tea house for tea and coffee.

It was a perfect way to spend a day of acclimating to the new time zone, staying awake, getting a lot of light. Then, back to Maura's for a lovely roast chicken, roast vegetable dinner, complete, of course, with a good pudding. (lemon tart)
By around 8:30, we could not keep our eyes open any longer and off to bed in Maura's new guest room in the front room.
