We had a quiet day today, starting with a walk at Council Grove State Park just outside of Missoula. We heard a lot more birds than we saw despite lots of trying. We did see a spotted sandpiper and heard a black-headed grosbeak and a rough wing swallow, but couldn't see them, which was a shame as they would have been "life birds."
From there, we obtained our International Drivers' License from AAA for our upcoming trip to Australia and New Zealand.
Then, we went to David and Maura's and let the dogs out for a bit. While there, we saw a Western Meadowlark.
Then, we got lunch/dinner at the Soup Farm. Two soups, a sandwich and a chicken pot pie to cook.
Then we went to the Farm to Market place and got some pork to marinate for a future dinner with Maura and David.
After that, we went to the river and watched the kayakers and surfers on the river. Endlessly entertaining.
Today we went to the Missoula Farmers' Market which is very large and a lot of fun. Lots of farmers selling veggies, food trucks, bakeries, candles, coffee roasters, crafts. We bought a few things - lip balm, some huckleberry jam, beets for tonight's dinner.
Then we went to Le Petit Outre coffee shop which we always visit when we are here. We found that it is moving to a new spot soon. After people-watching there, we went to Costco. We got some trail mix, sweet potatoes and Mark got some sun glasses.
Then - to REI where Barbara bought a camel back insert for her backpack for Ireland.
Later we went to the Missoula County Animal Control where David works. He gave us a tour of their new building is under construction. It should open by summer's end. They are using a trailer as an office and making do with their old animal kennels. The new building will give them a lot more space.
Afterwards, we went to David and Maura's for a delicious meal. Maura made a terrific salad with kale, chickpeas and many other ingredients. We also had marinated pork loin, sweet potatoes and grilled corn. It was a nice evening.
