Today was the day that we went on a family horseback ride at Rugg's Ranch in Superior, Montana. Mark gave this as a present to Barbara at Christmas - a real surprise.
David drove us there and we saddled up around 10:30 a.m. Mark - on Twitch; Maura - on King; David - on Sunset and Barbara on Striker. Our trail leader was Kip Ruggs. He had a bit of trouble with his horse which spooked Maura's horse a bit and Maura had the hardest ride of all of us. Kip dismounted and led his horse much of the way.
We rode up a ridge and down for about two hours which was the right amount of time.
The weather was supposed to get into the 80s so it was good that we rode in the morning as it did not get too hot, especially as we were usually in the forest.
When we got back to David and Maura's, we found that Dennis, her dad was in Missoula to lunch with us. (We thought it was going to be tomorrow, so felt happy that it all worked out.) We went to the Iron Horse and had a lovely lunch as Dennis's treat. He has not been down to Missoula since 2020, so we felt quite honored that he made the effort as it is quite a trek to Big Fork and back in one day.
A very good day.
