Improv Show, March 31

Today we had an errand day for a good deal of the day. For example, Mark got a new pair of sneakers and we went to Staples and got some needed copies. For lunch we could not resist going back to Phuang Trang where Barbara had a delicious meal of beef cooked in vinegar and then made rice paper rolls with daikon, carrots, mint, cilantro, cucumber. Mark had a chicken and fish noodle soup.
In the evening we went to the National Comedy Theater where we went to the 7 p.m. show. We met Michael Maury's fiance, Ann Marie, her daughter and her mom to watch. Three companies did shows - all excellent - so funny, so talented. Michael's group was in the last set. Their improv involved suggestions from the audience, as per improv rules, but added the element of making a musical with piano accompaniment. It was a delightful sketch made more funny by them acting as if they were Canadians. Very entertaining.
We stayed with Michael and his family for the second show which was by the lesser companies, several actually studying in classes Michael teaches. They were also good, but not as funny as the first set.

We had such nice chats with Michael and Ann Marie. Michael is so busy - his day job is working for the medical school. He started by being a "standard patient", actors who play at being patients with various ailments. But now Michael is in charge and supervises the actors. He also teaches improv classes, teaches various musical instruments (guitar, piano, percussion), participates in improv at the NCT and also has an occasional job as emcee at a casino. Whew. (He and Mary Ann are getting married in August.)
