We left Lumel after having a breakfast. The landlady recommended that we go to visit Bozouls, a place we had never heard of. It was only 27 kilometers, so we decided to go visit. It was an excellent decision. It is horseshoe-shaped canyon, 100 meters deep and 400 meters across with a town on the rim. The town was not really open as it is Easter Sunday and it was too early. So, we took some photos and kept driving.
Today had fewer tertiary roads, but still included over 20 different roads. We passed by the Millau bridge, the tallest bridge in the world. We did not go over it as we have programmed the GPS for no tolls.
We passed through a variety of terrains today and temperatures from 37 to 65 as we went south. We started in the gorges region of central France, then went up to a drier mesa around Millau, then descended toward the Mediterranean and the plants changed and the trees are in bloom. Then, we were routed from around Montpellier into the Camargue, the delta of the Rhone famous for its flamingos and white horses.
When we were in the Camargue, we thought we'd stop for a bite to eat and went into Aigues Morte, a walled city which goes back to the time of Charlemagne. But, as it was a sunny day and Easter, the town was completely packed, so...we ate outside of town at a small sandwich shop.
After that, we went to Arles to stay with Jerry. This time we are staying in his gite, a private apartment.
We all took a lovely walk into Arles along the Petit Rhone in the sun which was great. We had a soft drink in one of the public squares and then walked home the same way. Then....chatting into the evening.
