Arles, Les Baux April 2

 A wonderful and full day.
We had a wonderful mid-day Easter dinner today, a day after Easter. Jerry made a leg of lamb with roasted vegetables followed by fruit salad and cheeses. Bruno and Juliette who stayed with us in Nantucket and N.H. about 4 years ago, came over. It was wonderful. Bruno spoke more English and Mark spoke and understood more French. Somehow, we all mostly understood each other. Jerry and Juliette did a lot of translating, however.
Afterwards, we all went in Jerry's car to Les Baux in the Alpilles (Little Alps).  It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France and attracts 1.5 million visitors every year. There is a ruined castle overlooking the town. The name bauxite is derived from the village's name.
From there we drove up higher to a promontory where we could see a long way, including to the Camargue and overlooking the quarries of Les Baux. We could also see the huge peak of Le Ventu, a haute classification mountain often on the Tour de France.
After that, we went for a short walk along a ruined Roman aqueduct Barbegal that brought water into Arles. It was a bit windy and chilly.
Then, we dropped Juliette and Bruno at home and stayed up late chatting with Jerry, solving the problems of the world.
