Watson's Bay, October 20, 2025

 On the water again

A nearby street

We are so enjoying the ferries in Sydney Harbor, so today decided to take a ferry to Watson's Bay which seemed a great choice because it was around 90 degrees. The ride there was quite windy.

Once there, we decided to walk towards South Head where there is a headland and a lighthouse. However, there was not much shade and we only got part way there before we decided to turn back.

Yes, it was windy! Look at her hair!

However, it was a pretty walk and we also managed to identify some birds.  We stopped in a gorgeous park with huge trees. There we saw our first Laughing Kookaburra and Mark took a picture of it in one of the trees. The huge trees had trunks and branches that seemed like huge rhinos or elephants.

We also walked to a little sandy beach and climbed higher up for the views. We saw Australian magpies and a red wattle bird as well as many others we could not identify. There was a gun emplacement on the hill and nice views back to Sydney.

We wandered back to the dock and took the ferry back to Sydney. We picked up sandwich fixings and salad fixings at the supermarket and ate in "our" apartment.

Ready to hear opera!

In the evening, we went to the Sydney Opera House to hear a sampling of operas called "Great Opera Hits" with narration by the four singers - a soprano, a mezzo soprano, a baritone and a tenor.

Outside the Opera House

They were excellent, taking time to describe the selections which ranged - from comedic, to mysterious, to devious and to tragic. We heard arias from Verdi, Rossini, Bizet, Mozart, and Puccini. We had good center seats.

When we came out, the night was quite magical. The lights of Sydney's skyline were gorgeous and the Opera House had a light show on some of the exterior.
At the right, there is a glimpse of the lightshow on the Opera House

We took the tram home and got some spicy chicken nuggets at a nearby tiny restaurant.
